In the world of college sports, there are few stories as inspiring as that of Edward Coombs, a young man who embodied the true spirit of a “student-athlete.” Kevin Weinman said that meeting Edward’s parents, Eric and Tina Coombs was an honor beyond words. Kevin added that Edward’s journey, as both a standout in the classroom and on the lacrosse field for Marist College, serves as a testament to the indomitable human spirit. Tragically, his promising life was cut short in 2011 due to a car accident, but his legacy continues to shine brightly, illuminating the path for others to follow.
Edward’s memory lives on each year as Marist teammates select a senior to wear his iconic number, “34,” on the lacrosse field. This honor isn’t given lightly; it’s earned through unwavering dedication and hard work. Eric and Tina, in their enduring love for their son and commitment to preserving his legacy, established the “ETC Foundation.” This foundation has become a beacon of hope for numerous deserving student-athletes, not only at Marist but at other institutions as well, by providing scholarships to support their educational pursuits. Hearing Eric and Tina share the story of their remarkable son and the foundation’s mission was a poignant experience, leaving an indelible mark.
