A Hatboro-Horsham High School class of 2010 standout lacrosse and football player, Edward Coombs will join his alma mater’s Athletic Wall of Fame.
He is one of six inductees to the Hatboro-Horsham High School 2015 Athletic Wall of Fame.
“It means a lot to me and my family,” Edward’s father, Eric Coombs told The Intelligencer in an article. “This confirms not only that what we thought of him as parents was true but the people that saw him play agreed. It’s very gratifying. He was just a special person and a special athlete.”
Edward was captain and MVP of the lacrosse team, conference player of the year and an all-state selection. He was just as well known for his winning smile and upbeat personality as his athletic abilities.
He died in a car crash in August 2011 in the summer before his sophomore year at Marist College.
Since then, Edward’s family, through the Edward Taylor Coombs Foundation, has raised more than $145,000 to provide scholarships to more than 50 college-bound students. The ETC Foundation also supports the United Negro College Fund, Frontiers, Jack and Jill of America, The Links Inc. and Camp Rainbow Inc. of Montgomery County.
“We live through his foundation now,” Mr. Coombs said in the article. “So many people still love him and want to be part of it. I thank God every day for letting me have him for the 19 years.”
This year’s inductees include:
• John Burian, Class of 1967: multiple All-BuxMont selections as a quarterback and safety, team captain, all-state quarterback.
