Since its founding in the fall of 2011, a major goal of the Edward Taylor Coombs Foundation has been to work with local high schools to teach youth the importance of making responsible decisions. Joey Sankey of the Charlotte Hounds Major League Lacrosse team will lead a youth lacrosse clinic during the Edward Taylor Coombs Foundation's fourth annual Fall Ball Shootout. The clinic is geared for middle school boys in fifth- through eighth-grades and will serve as an all-around skills clinic. "We are fortunate to have Joey Sankey of the Charlotte Hounds Major League Lacrosse teaching skills," said Erin Coombs, one of the ETC Foundation Fall Ball Shootout organizers. He was the ninth overall pick in the 2015 MLL draft, 2015 MLL rookie of the year and team leader in points during his rookie season. A Hatboro-Horsham High School class of 2010 standout lacrosse and football player, Edward Coombs will join his alma mater’s Athletic Wall of Fame. He is one of six inductees to the Hatboro-Horsham High School 2015 Athletic Wall of Fame. “It means a lot to me and my family,” Edward’s father, Eric Coombs told The Intelligencer in an article. “This confirms not only that what we thought of him as parents was true but the people that saw him play agreed. It’s very gratifying. He was just a special person and a special athlete.” Edward was captain and MVP of the lacrosse team, conference player of the year and an all-state selection. By Paul Schwedelson for The Daily Orange The Marist men’s lacrosse team was headed to Eddie Coombs’ funeral and incoming freshman Dave Scarcello called head coach Keegan Wilkinson because he wanted to reserve a seat on the team bus. Coombs, a midfielder for the Red Foxes, had just died in a car accident in the summer of 2011 as a rising sophomore and Scarcello wanted to help his future teammates cope. When Eric Coombs, Eddie’s father, and Wilkinson were deciding who to award Coombs’ No. 34 to this season, Eric Coombs remembered his son’s funeral. He remembered that Scarcello attended before he was even on the team. The Red Foxes stormed out against Bryant, topping the Bulldogs 10-6 in the NCAA play-in game Wednesday at Tenney Stadium.
